The Economic and Wider Impacts Report is designed to capture the impact our University has on the local area, our surrounding region and the wider UK. It examines the scale and character of the impacts of our operation, looking at our economic impact, as well as examining wider societal impacts of the University. The report looks beyond just the core activities of teaching and research, taking into account our additional contributions to economic development, culture, community, personal development, environmental sustainability and advancing social justice.
With 28,680 students, 7,800 staff, 77 departments, and an annual income exceeding £675 million, the University of Liverpool is a substantial organisation. Our activities have a similarly sizeable impact, extending far beyond just teaching and research. This report explores each of the diverse ways that the University has an impact.
In total, the University's activities in 2022/23 generated an estimated £1.2 billion Gross Value Added (GVA) and 15,870 jobs in the Liverpool City Region. On a national level, the University generated an estimated £2.2 billion GVA and 26,630 jobs.
