On an institutional trip to Bangalore, India in early November, Prof. Ronan McGrath (pictured, right) from the Liverpool Physics Department and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tim Jones (left) connected with one of our department’s distinguished Physics Alumni, Jyoti Thyagarajan (centre). Jyoti did an MSc (Physics with Education) in 1991. She then worked as a teacher of mathematics and physics for 32 years, educating at both the higher and secondary education levels across India and Africa. Upon retirement from teaching, Jyoti became the Founder and Chief Design Officer of Ontum Education, an edtech company offering classroom television products for private schools. She also serves as the Co-Founder and Managing Trustee of Meghshala Trust, a non-profit seeking to empower 100,000 teachers over five years with virtual tutoring support in the classroom. She is truly an inspirational person and a delight to talk to!
